The star performer for the William Hill group last year was William Hill Bingo, which registered a growth of 169% during the year.
The group’s online bingo operations, which for financial reporting purposes are billed together with skill games, saw an explosive growth due to a successful television ad campaign and extensive publicity and advertising in the groups betting shops.
The overall revenues for the online operation of William Hill were £83.1 million, a rise of 13%. While the revenues for sports betting increased by 6%, poker was a bit disappointing with a fall of 21% in revenue.
Earlier, this year William Hill and Playtech combined their online websites into one group. The Chief Executive of William Hill, Henry Birch, headed the group and Playtech owned a 29% stake in the new group.
In the financial results statement, the group said that they have also signed an agreement with Playtech for a minimum period of 5 years. The agreement will enable the William Hill group to benefit from the improved casino and poker software of Playtech but there was no mention of the bingo software produced by Playtech, which is regarded as a poor product in the online bingo industry.
After the financial results were declared, William Hill shares rose by 3 pence to 250 pence in the early trading session.
