Pensioners Fall Out Over Big Gala Bingo Win
Can you imagine playing a game of bingo and scooping a huge £10,000 cash prize, you might think it would really be a dream come true, wouldn’t you? Well Sandra Fowler-McAllister actually did win £10,000 in the popular Gala Bingo famous High 5 game, at her local Bingo hall in Nottingham. However, her delight was soon short lived when she had a disagreement with her best friend and long term bingo companion Muriel Harrison.
Mrs Fowler-McAllister originally won the £10,000 back in March at Gala Bingo. However, a rift soon developed between the lucky Gala Bingo winner and Mrs Harrison. The basis of the argument stems from Mrs Harrison claim that Mrs Fowler-McAllister refused to honor a verbal agreement that they had made. Mrs Harrison believed that they had agreed to share their bingo winnings 50/50.
Mrs Harrison claims that Mrs Fowler-McAllister told her that she couldn’t give her half of the prize money as she felt she needed the money more than her, largely due to the fact that Mrs Harrison had her own house. This lead to Mrs Harrison taking Mrs Fowler-McAllister to Nottingham Country Court, where she was attempting to claim ‘her half ‘of the Gala Bingo prize money at £5,000 plus costs and interest.
During the court case Mrs Fowler-McAllister disagreed with Mrs Harrisons claims, as she had offered her a 20% share of the money. Mrs Fowler-McAllister said “We never had any agreement if we won a large sum of money or if we would share. A share in her mind was 50 per cent but we never made any agreement. I’ve never ever said she couldn’t have a share”
In the end the case was dismissed by the judge as he said “they had an adhoc agreement that only worked when it suited them”. Mrs Harrison was not happy with the outcome and has said she is going to appeal. Let’s hope that both Mrs Harrison and Mrs Fowler- McAllister can put this behind them and move on with their lives.
