Mistaken Identity at Mecca Bingo Southport
A Mecca Bingo club in Southport made a huge mistake on Sunday the 7th of March when they were conned into paying out a £500 bingo jackpot to the wrong bingo player. Usually when any bingo club pays out a jackpot win they check the winner’s membership card and winning bingo ticket, for some reason this never happened at Mecca Bingo Southport which resulted in a women in her twenties falsely claiming the money. Once the Mecca Bingo club had handed over the money the woman made a swift exit taking the cash with her.
The bingo con artist was able to ‘talk the talk and walk the walk’ managing to deceive the Mecca Bingo hall staff into believing that she was friends with the winner and that she had asked her to collect the money on her behalf. Sunday is one of Mecca Bingo’s Southport’s busiest nights with hundreds of keen bingo players in attendance which may have lead to them making the error.

It was only discovered that they had paid the money to the wrong lady when the rightful owner of the cash jackpot went to claim her £500. Mecca Bingo soon realised their error though and paid the rightful bingo winner her prize.
The police are currently looking for the con artist and have been looking through Mecca Bingo’s CCTV footage to see if they can identify her, the police have also been interviewing people in the local area. Let’s hope they catch her soon.
