Mecca Bingo Ends the Year with Some Good News
There have been plenty of companies, including Mecca Bingo, that have seen some decreases in their sales through 2008 and this is especially true of companies that have some interest in the gaming industry. There is some good news in all the doom and gloom for Mecca Bingo though. Despite the seven percent downturn in group sales for a fifty week period in general, the last fifteen weeks up until December 14th has actually seen an increase of one percent. With the ban on smoking, fewer gaming machines in the bingo halls and double taxation, the industry has been hit extremely hard recently.
When you add the decrease in consumer confidence that the economic downturn has caused, there have been some serious problems to overcome. The increase in sales that Mecca Bingo has seen in the last few weeks is hopefully an indication of a silver lining to all of the bad news. They have also had some good news from the £59 million repayment they received last month after the VAT tribunal acknowledged that Mecca Bingo was charged for VAT on their bingo games unfairly. This means that Mecca Bingo should end the year on a positive note.
The group acknowledged that there has been a decrease in sales throughout the year, but that in recent weeks, there has been an improvement in sales.
The Rank Group is responsible for many different divisions, but the news that Mecca Bingo, Grosvenor Casino and Blue Square have all seen improvement in their numbers is a sure sign that things seem to be moving up for the group.
The group is a European market leader and also have sites in Spain as well. Mecca Bingo is the group’s uk bingo site, along with online bingo universal in Spain. The numbers in Spain have been dismal over the last year as well, due to the high unemployment and lack of consumer’s confidence the market is suffering in the country.
There has been a decrease in Spanish bingo during the last year and they have seen a decrease in the money people are spending in the bingo halls, but there is a bit of good news in the midst of the difficulty. The Euro’s strength when compared to the GBP has caused an increase of four percent in revenue for the Spanish market. It is hoped that the next year will see an upturn in the gaming industry as the Rank Group gears up for another exciting year.
